Living dead girl . . . little girl lost . . . Faith lost and found.

Faith grew up in Boston under the not-so-watchful eye of her alcoholic and abusive mother. The only thing her mother ever gave her was the nickname of firecracker. The little girl became independent and wild, taking any dare her peers gave her. The little girl became torn and broken inside, running around with boys and picking fights with peers. The little girl became tough and sassy, not letting anyone or anything get in the way of what she wanted.

And then she became the Chosen One. Chosen after the death of Kendra. Chosen to fight the forces of darkness. Chosen to be the Vampire Slayer. She was sent a Watcher, her personal teacher and trainer. Though we don't know her name, we know she was a guiding force for Faith to some extent. Whatever happiness Faith had with her new life was fleeting. A vampire named Kaikistos came to town, killing her Watcher as Faith looked on. She badly damaged his eye and managed to run away.

She ran to Sunnydale, California, where fellow Slayer Buffy lives. As soon as Faith set foot into Sunnydale, she got down to business...and danced. The first thing we see Faith do is bust a move at the Bronze, a local club. Shortly thereafter, she was found slaying a vampire in the alley. She met up with Buffy and her friends, full of stories about her various triumphs all over Back East and the South. She would later reveal her life philosophy to Buffy: "Want. Take. Have."

Throughout the year, Faith was often seen tearing up the dance floor. It was a release for her - a non-violent way to let out all of that pent-up anger, tension, excitement and energy.

Unfortunately, sometimes her emotions did lead to violence. Accidents happen - and they happened. One night, while on patrol with Buffy, Faith moved too quickly, didn't look twice, and stabbed Deputy Mayor Allan Finch in the heart with a wooden stake. She didn't mean to, but she did, and within moments Finch as dead.

Everything changed then. Faith's world spun faster, harder, harsher. If she was on fire before, she was now burning from head to toe now. She had killed a human. She had broken the rules of the Chosen. She had broken the laws of society.

And she didn't care.

Or so she claimed. Person after person - Buffy, her Watcher Giles, Faith's new Watcher Wesley - tried to console and counsel Faith. She would have none of it. She didn't care. She didn't turn herself in. She didn't want to be coddled. She wanted to slay.

The tension between Buffy and Faith grew. They were no longer sisters in Slaying, much less friends. Faith chose to work for Richard Wilkins, the town's quirky but decidedly evil Mayor. He honestly cared for her, spoiling her rotten with a new apartment, new furnishings, food, one extra sharp and shiny knife which she treasure, and, most important of all, attention. She got to be a Daddy's Girl. It was never said how her true father treated her, if he was even in the picture, but Wilkins was definitely her father figure now.

After a hundred year reign of immortality, Wilkins prepared to ascend. To become a full-fledged reptilian demon. He planned to do so at the Sunnydale High graduation ceremony. He promised that Faith would be right there, by his side, watching as the ones who hurt her go up in flames.

But Faith would not be at the graduation. Days prior, she critically wounded Buffy's vampiric boyfriend Angel with a poisonous arrow to 'distract' Buffy from the upcoming ascension. It was discovered that only the blood of a Slayer would save Angel. Buffy, already sick of waiting around, took the fight to Faith. After a lengthy and evenly matched fight on the roof of Faith's apartment, Buffy stabbed Faith in the gut with her own knife. Faith refused to let Buffy have the last word. She spotted an approaching truck on the road below and stepped backwards off of the roof, dropping stories upon stories to land in the back of the truck.

Her spirit was truly lost now. Comatose, she was taken to the local hospital in Sunnydale, where she remained for eight months. When she awoke, she found the world changed yet again. The Mayor was dead. Faith was alone. It was time for her to seek revenge on Buffy. The duo even switched bodies at one point due to an enchanted object the Mayor had left for Faith. After seeing the world through Buffy's eyes, Faith realized what good Buffy had done for people. Faith felt guilt and remorse for the first time in a long while. She played stowaway on an outbound vehicle and left town.

She put on her dancing shoes again in Los Angeles. She wasn't just on fire now, she was burnt now, dancing to her lifesong "Living Dead Girl" in a club. She pushed people around, both literally and figuratively. The law firm of Wolfram & Hart found Faith and hired her to kill Angel. With glimmering eyes, she set about for the errand. She tried to kill Angel more than once and, just for the fun of it, tortured her former Watcher (and now Angel's associate) Wesley. Angel interrupted the torture session and Faith launched into attack mood. They broke various objects including the window which they then fell out of, hitting the asphault of the alleyway below. Again, Faith had fallen. Again, Faith was shattered. But now it was raining from the sky and from her eyes. She begged Angel to kill her.

Instead, Angel took her under his wing. Buffy visited town, upset that Faith had made her a victim with the body-switch. Faith no longer wanted to fight with Buffy. Everyone was angry with her, but she had to be angry with herself to change. By the end of the episode, she turned herself in to local authorities. As she settled into her jail cell, she closed her eyes. Her quest for inner peace had begun.

We have seen Faith only once since, and though was not dancing, we was smiling. Angel visited her in prison and they spoke of everything from jailyard fights to Barry Manilow. The little girl is still lost, the living dead girl still walks the earth, but she is bound for the road to redemption.
